As many of you are aware the City of Bellevue will be rebuilding the Surrey Downs Park and as part of that project will be replacing the cyclone fence that is between the park and bordering Surrey Down’s residents. Unbeknownst to anyone, according to the City of Bellevue in a recent land survey, the fence that was put up in the 60’s and 70’s was built on the Park property versus on the property line between the Park and residents homes. When the City rebuilds the fence they want to move it to the property line. This seems like a reasonable move, however, some residents will lose up to 14’ of their back or side yards in the process (most will lose between 1’ and 5’). Instead of rebuilding the fence on the property line, we want the fence rebuilt in the same location where it is today.
What can you do as a non-impacted Surrey Downs resident? We’re asking for your help in voicing impacted neighbors preference to have the fence rebuilt where it is currently. This will be the most inexpensive to neighbors and the city of Bellevue. This position will not impact the design or any elements of the new Park either.
If you wish to increase the voice of your 18 impacted neighbors, please personalize the attached form letter and either email or mail it to one or all of the City Council Members and City Manager (Brad Miyake).
