SDCC Secretary attended, about 100 present. Mayor Stokes opened with a rather long vision speech (downtown plus neighborhoods) as Bellevue grows into the Innovation hub of the state (GIX, REI HQ, etc.) with the Grand Connection joining east and west Bellevue. Demographics have changed significantly (30% foreign born), what makes Bellevue different is that it is a City of Neighborhoods, it was planned this way. But the neighborhood plan has not been updated for a long time; so going forward this effort is to update area plan.
Chief of Police also spoke praising community engagement. Introduced concept of Sector Captains (SD is West Sector under Captain Lisa Patricelli, firstname.lastname@example.org 425-452-7921. More detail at http://www.bellevuewa.gov/contact-police.htm
Other hot topics (PSE, ST, traffic) were parked; will be interesting to be how these are considered and addressed.
Responsible for updating the neighborhood area plan will be Nicholas Matz, early in 2017. Council will dictate the pace and focus.
Of note: Council Budget meeting 2018 budget review on Nov 21st – SD Park should be in this budget. See http://www.bellevuewa.gov/budget-public-involvement.htmif you want to attend and ensure budget is allocated.
